WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's tennis team earned its second win in as many days with an 7-2 non-league home victory over Juniata Saturday evening.
As it did in its Friday night win over Mary Baldwin, Shenandoah (2-0) swept the doubles to seize control before clinching with two quick singles wins.
IN BRIEF
Two of the three doubles matches were close as
Jada Lewis and
Madison Rogers at No. 2 and
Caitlin Bennett and
Emma Crue at No. 3 both won 8-6.
Jahveesha Combs and
Lily Kimble, playing No. 1, breezed to an 8-1 victory.
Those two women then immediately returned to the court and posted a pair of straight set victories to clinch the win. Combs was first off the court, winning 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 before Kimble was a 6-0, 6-3 victor at No. 2.
With the result clinched, two of the of the final four singles matches were played as eight-game pro sets.
The Hornets and Eagles (1-5) split those final four matches with
Emma Crue winning 8-1 at No. 5 and
Madison Rogers 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4 for SU and Juniata taking the Nos. 3 and 6 singles contests.
