WINCHESTER, Va. – The No. 18 Shenandoah University baseball team ushered in its 2020 ODAC slate Saturday by sweeping a doubleheader from Emory & Henry.

Shenandoah (9-1, 2-0 ODAC) downed the Wasps (5-8, 0-2) by 15-0 and 7-2 scores.
GAME ONE RECAP
A five-run first proved to be all that sophomore
Carson Kulina (1-0) would need in the shutout victory.
Â
Kulina struck out six and scattered just two hits in 6.0 innings of work before turning it over to
Reeves Lowry to start the seventh.
Â
Lowry gave up one hit in two innings and
Reilly Owen pitched a scoreless ninth to complete the shutout.
Â
The Hornets offense banged out 21 hits in the win and scored runs in all but the third and fifth innings.
Â
Grant Thompson paced that 21-hit attack with a 4-for-5 day that included three runs scored and an RBI.
Frankie Ritter,
Henry Delavergne, and
Keegan Woolford each had three hits with Woolford driving in a pair.

Pearce Bucher and
Wyatt Potter rounded out men with multiple hits by getting two each. Potter also had four RBI – he drove in a pair on a double to left in the first, had a run-scoring single in the fourth and a sacrifice fly in the seventh.
GAME TWO RECAP
E&H took the early lead with two runs on two hits and one SU error in the second, but the Hornets settled in and knotted the game with two runs in the fourth.

SU took the lead for good in the fifth with three runs on four hits and one Wasps error.

Thompson had what proved to be the game-winning RBI with a bases loaded single through the left side that brought
Blaine Hansen in from third.
Â
Hansen, who pinch hit to lead off the frame, reached on a single up the middle.

Ritter had three hits and Thompson two to lead the offense. Potter drove in a pair.

Sophomore
Calvin Pastel (2-0) came on in relief of
Tad Dean and got the win with 2 2/3 innings of relief work. He struck out five and did not allow a run on one hit and two walks.

Cade Templeton earned the save by getting the final four outs of the contest.
