Football Pounds Quakers

Hornets Win, 52-25

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Shenandoah University used a season-best offensive performance to key a 52-25 ODAC football victory at Guilford College Saturday afternoon.
 
Shenandoah (4-1, 2-1 ODAC) rolled up 592 yards in total offense in blowing out the Quakers (1-3, 0-3).

SU jumped to a 38-13 halftime lead with 17 points in the first and 21 more in the second.
 
Quarterback Steven Hugney, who finished his day 16 of 31 for 285 yards and four touchdowns, threw TD passes of 18-, 38-, 45-, and 24-yards in the initial 30 minutes as the Hornets took total command of the contest.
 
Brant Butler had two of those catches, hauling in a 38-yarder with 31 seconds to play in the first and a 24-yarder with 27 seconds left in the second.
 
Austin Regan had the 18-yard TD reception for the squad's initial touchdown with Andre Jackson hauling in the 45-yarder midway through the second.
 
Patrick Ritchie had opened the game's scoring with a 27-yard field goal at 12:04 of the first.
 
Rashadeen Byrd Jr. paced a 307-yard rushing attack with 18 carries for 143 yards and two touchdowns. He had an 8-yard run in the second before capping the afternoon's scoring on a 1-yarder with 5:20 play. The latter touchdown came one play after he ripped off a 46-yard run around right end.
 
Hugney produced the other second half TD with a 5-yard TD run at 9:42 of the fourth. That play capped a 13-play, 96-yard drive.
 
Butler had a game-high 143 yards on five receptions.
 
Ben Burgan had 14 tackles to lead the victors defense.
