WINCHESTER, Va. – Visiting Randolph-Macon used a strong second quarter to key a 62-52 ODAC women's basketball victory over Shenandoah University Wednesday evening.

Shenandoah (2-1, 0-1 ODAC) led 11-7 after one only to see the Yellow Jackets (2-0, 1-0) score 19 of 27 second quarter points to take a lead they would not relinquish.

After shooting 36 percent (5 of 14) in the opening stanza, SU was held to just 20 percent (3 of 15) shooting in the second quarter as the Macon scored the first nine points of the period.

Ragan Johnson ended the drought with a layup at 4:29, but R-MC now had control of the contest. The 'Jackets expanded their lead by scoring the final six points of the quarter.

The two teams split 34 third quarter points, with Shenandoah shooting 43 percent (6 of 14) and Macon a sizzling 62 percent (8 of 13).

In the fourth, R-MC held off the Hornets by scoring 19 of the 37 points.

SU shot 36 percent (22 of 62) for the game, had 33 rebounds and turned the ball over only 10 times. Macon shot 48 percent (23 of 48), pulled down 42 rebounds and turned the ball over 17 times.

Shenandoah scored 10 points off of those 17 turnovers.

Olivia Weinel led the hosts with 14 points and eight rebounds while
Sierra St. Cyr added 12 points.
