Men's Hoops Drops Opener

Neumann Wins 78-58

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Shenandoah University men's basketball team opened up its 2021-22 season with a 78-58 loss to Neumann University in the opening game of the Purplestride Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Classic.

Neumann (1-0) led wire-to-wire in the first-ever men's basketball meeting between the Knights and Hornets (0-1).

IN BRIEF
Neumann jumped all over SU at the start, scoring the first 11 points of the game in the opening 4:23 to take a lead it would not relinquish.

An Anthony Cowan jumper at 10:39 cut the Shenandoah deficit to four, 15-11, but the Knights maintained control.

Neumann answered with a 3-pointer on its next trip down the floor and were able to hold SU at bay for the remainder of the first half. A 12-2 NU run over the final 2:48 of the first half sent the Knights into the halftime locker room with a 40-25 lead.

Neumann held at least a double-digit lead for the entire second half and did not let their lead shrink below 12 points.

Jaylen Williams led the Hornets with 15 points with Binwi Bihai adding 13.

Shenandoah shot 33.8 percent (23 of 68) and grabbed 34 rebounds. Neumann shot 46.8 percent from the field (29 of 62) and had 42 rebounds. The Knights also scored 21 points off of 17 SU turnovers.
