Women's Hoops Downs Hollins

Hornets Win, 76-61

WINCHESTER,  Va. – The Shenandoah University women's basketball team earned its first ODAC win of the season by taking out Hollins, 76-61, Saturday afternoon at the James R. Wilkins, Jr. Athletics & Events Center.
 
The Hornets (4-2, 1-2 ODAC) posted a five-point lead after one before pulling away from Hollins (5-3, 1-2) with a strong fourth quarter.
 
IN BRIEF
Leading 54-48 heading into the fourth, Shenandoah scored 22 of the game's final 35 points to dispatch HU. SU shot 53 percent (8-of-15) in the final stanza while making four of the six 3-pointers it had in the contest.
 
A pair of Sarah Sondrol free throws with 1:22 remaining in the second gave Shenandoah a lead it would not relinquish. The two teams traded the lead six times and were tied on three other occasions before Sondrol put the Hornets on top to stay.
 
The Shenandoah lead reached eight points in the third and was at least 10 points for the final 8:54 of the contest.
 
First-year Terese Greene led the hosts with 19 points with Olivia Weinel adding 16 and Ragan Johnson 14. Sierra St. Cyr had a team-high seven rebounds along with seven assists and seven points.
 
SU shot a sizzling 57 percent (32-of-56) from the field and had a 38-31 advantage on the glass. Shenandoah also was 43 percent (6-of-14) from beyond the arc.

The Hornets continue ODAC play with a 7 p.m. game at Roanoke Wednesday evening.
