LYNCHBURG, Va. - Host Randolph College held off a furious Shenandoah University comeback in a 79-74 ODAC men's basketball victory Thursday night at Giles Gymnasium.
Shenandoah (0-4, 0-4 ODAC) gave up the initial 11 points of the game and was behind by as many as 19 points midway through the second half before cutting the deficit to just one in the final minute of the contest.Â
IN BRIEF
Randolph (2-4, 2-3) responded to the Trammell Anthony bucket that made it 73-72 with 48 seconds left by hitting a corner 3-pointer on its ensuing trip down the floor.
SU turned the ball over on its next possession but got the ball right back as it forced a 'Cats offensive foul on the subsequent inbounds play.
Unfortunately for the Hornets, leading scorer Jaylen Williams came up just short on a 10-footer in the lane and Randolph was able to come up with the defensive rebound.
The hosts then made 3-of-4 from the charity stripe over the final 12 seconds to secure the victory.
Andres Frye had a turnaround jumper as time expired to provide the final margin of victory.
Williams led all scorers with 25 points with Frye adding 17 and Anthony 14.
Jerry Goodman and Evan Makle had 16 each for the hosts.
Shenandoah shot 39 percent from the field (30-of-78) and saw 67 of its 74 points come off the bench.
