CARY, N.C. - The Shenandoah University men's lacrosse team opened its 2021 season with a 17-8 non-league victory at William Peace University Sunday afternoon.
This is the second straight season that SU (1-0) has topped the Pacers (0-2) in its season opener.
IN BRIEF
With the score tied at 1-1, Shenandoah ripped off a five-goal run over the final 7:09 of the first and 8:14 of the second to take a commanding lead.
The Hornets led 8-3 by halftime and then scored eight of the 10 third-period goals to take a commanding, 16-5, lead into the final stanza.
Chris Baker led the victors with four goals and two assists for six points with
Devon Weaver tallying four goals.
Jay Baker,
Chris Baker's twin brother, and
Logan Clingerman both had two goals and one assist.
Shenandoah had a 48-35 advantage in shots, were 19 of 20 in clears and scooped up 31 of the game's 48 groundballs.
SU was also 2 of 4 on extra man offense.
