WINCHESTER, Va. – Visiting Virginia Wesleyan rallied from a nine-point fourth deficit to down Shenandoah University, 64-62, in ODAC women's basketball action Wednesday night at the James R. Wilkins, Jr. Athletics & Events Center.

With the score tied at 62-62, S'Zahria Jones hit a turnaround jumper in the lane with 3.3 seconds remaining to give Virginia Wesleyan (2-6, 1-4 ODAC) the victory.

Shenandoah (3-4, 2-3) attempted to quickly push the ball up the floor, but missed on a three-quarter court shot attempt as time expired.

SU, playing in its final home game of the 2021 regular season, led by seven at the end of one but went cold in the second.

The Hornets shot just 16 percent from the field (5 of 16) in the second stanza as VWU cut that seven-point deficit by five points.

The Marlins outscored Shenandoah again in the third and took a 43-42 lead into the fourth.

A 10-0 Hornets run to start the fourth gave the hosts a nine-point, 52-43, lead but once again VWU had an answer.

Virginia Wesleyan scored 11 of the game's next 13 points to tie the contest at 54-54. There was one lead change and two ties in the final four minutes before Jones hit the runner in the lane to win it for the visitors. She led the victors with 16 points.

Sarah Sondrol had 22 points and both
Olivia Weinel and
Ragan Johnson 14 for the hosts. Sondrol, with 15 rebounds, had a double-double.
