WINCHESTER, Va. – Visiting Washington & Lee University erased a seven-point second half deficit on its way to a 93-87 ODAC men's basketball victory over Shenandoah University Friday night at the James R. Wilkins, Jr. Athletics & Events Center.
 
Shenandoah (0-6, 0-6 ODAC) held a 74-67 lead following an 
Ethan Diffee free throw with 8:16 remaining, but W&L refused to fold its tents.
IN BRIEF
The Generals (3-1, 3-1) answered what ended up as a 16-3 Hornets run by scoring 15 of the game's next 22 points to take a lead they would not relinquish.
 
Now leading 82-81, W&L made six of its final eight attempts from the free throw line to ice the victory over Shenandoah.
 
Washington & Lee had led for all but the opening 13 seconds of the game only to see SU rip off a 12-3 run from the 16:39 to 13:15 marks to take its first lead at 62-61.
 
The Hornets extended this spurt with another four points before Jack d'Entermont, one of three W&L players in double figures, ended the run with a layup at 10:31.
 
Over the next two minutes, Shenandoah widened its lead to the high-water mark of seven points before the Generals counterattacked with the 15-7 run of their own.
 
SU missed five of its final seven attempts from the field as it attempted to stay with W&L.
 
Jaylen Williams led the hosts with 24 points while 
Zach Garrett added 20.
 
William Brueggeman had 32, d'Entremont 23 and Mark Lamendola 10 for the visitors.
 
Shenandoah shot 42 percent (28 of 67) to an even 50 percent for Washington & Lee (33 of 66) and the two teams split 80 rebounds.
