WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University men's basketball team wrapped up pre-ODAC Tournament play Sunday with an 89-85 exhibition loss to Christopher Newport University.
 
In a game that featured eight lead changes and nine ties, CNU took the lead for good on a Nick Thomas three-point play with 5:36 remaining.

IN BRIEF 

The bucket and foul broke a 71-71 tie and ignited a 15-4 run for the Captains over a span of 2:10.
 
Now down 11, 86-75, Shenandoah (0-7) would score 10 of the game's final 13 points, but it would not be enough to erase the deficit.
 
Christopher Newport (0-0) missed three of its final four free throws in the final 49 seconds.
 
SU led for the majority of the contest, 26:21, with the Captains only holding the advantage for 8:05.
 
Freshman Matthew Anderson paced the hosts with 23 points with classmate Andres Frye adding 17 and Zach Garrett 13.
 
Landon Hawes had 33 for CNU.
 
Shenandoah shot 52 percent (35 of 67) from the field and was 8 of 10 (80 percent) from the line. The Hornets also had a 38-33 advantage on the glass.
