WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's basketball team earned its first ODAC win of the season Monday night with a 61-43 home triumph over Ferrum College.
Â
Shenandoah (2-3, 1-2 ODAC) led wire-to-wire in dispatching the Panthers (1-4, 1-4).
IN BRIEF
Sierra St. Cyr and
Ragan Johnson buckets got the Hornets started before a
Sarah Sondrol '3' followed by a
Brooke Riley jumper gave the hosts' a 9-0 advantage and forced a Ferrum timeout at 6:52.
Â
FC would cut its deficit to two points, 12-10, by the 4:01 mark only to see Sondrol and
Madisen Kimble give coach
Melissa Smeltzer-Kraft's club some breathing room with back-to-back makes at 2:23 and 1:51, respectively.
Â
Sondrol, who led the victors with 13 points, closed out the first with the second of her three 3-pointers on the night.
Â
Another '3', this one from Kimble 3:15 into the second, pushed the advantage into double digits for the first time.
Â
The lead reached 17 (thanks to a Riley '3') before SU went into the halftime break with a 14-point, 40-26, advantage.
Â
Shenandoah maintained at least an 11-point lead the rest of the way and saw the bulge reach 21 points with 2:41 remaining.
Â
All but one of the 11 women who saw action for Smeltzer-Kraft registered at least two points with Sondrol the only player in double figures.
