WINCHESTER, Va. – Host Shenandoah University dropped a 98-86 men's basketball decision to Christopher Newport University in exhibition action Tuesday night.

Shenandoah (0-3) jumped to a 13-1 lead and led for the majority of the first half only to see CNU (0-0) rally.

The Captains, trailing by that 13-1 score following a pair of
Matthew Anderson free throws at 17:10, scored the next 11 points of the game in a span of 2:50 to make it 13-12 in favor of the Hornets.

Jaylen Williams, who led the hosts with 25 points, answered with a 3-pointer on the ensuing trip down the floor, but Christopher Newport would not go away.

The Captains tied at 18-18 on a Jahn Hines jumper at 10:21 before taking their first lead (25-23) thanks to a Jamaal Madison '3' at 7:45.

The two teams had two lead changes and three ties over the next three minutes before CNU used a 17-12 run to finish the first to take a 49-44 lead at the break.

CNU then put the game away with a 17-2 run to start the second.

The lead reach 21 points by the 13:20 mark and the Captains held at least a 12-point lead the rest of the way.

Shenandoah scored the final six points of the game.

In addition to Williams' 25, Anderson had 14 and both
Zach Garrett and
Deondre McNeill 11 for the hosts.

Hines had 25 and Aigner 24 for Christopher Newport.
