WINCHESTER, Va. – No. 21/35 Shenandoah University baseball opened up its ODAC slate Friday afternoon with a 10-2 home victory over Guilford.

In the bottom of the first, Shenandoah (4-1, 1-0 ODAC) scored three runs on two hits and one Quakers (0-1, 0-1) error to provide itself with all of the offense it would need to secure the victory.

SU added two more in the second, chasing GC starter Tristan Dobbs (0-1), before adding four in the fourth and one in the fifth to pull away.

Sophomore
Tad Dean (1-0) tossed the initial seven innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and one walk against five strikeouts.

Jacob Faivre and
Tristan Everett finished up, pitching the eighth and ninth, respectively, with Faivre striking out two and Everett one.
Â
Dean faced the minimum in the first, fifth, sixth, and seventh innings and benefitted from inning-ending double plays in the first and second. The southpaw retired the final 12 hitters he faced with four strikeouts, four flyouts, two groundouts, a lineout, and a popper to second.

The top six hitters in the SU lineup were a combined 15 for 27 with nine RBI and seven runs scored.
Colby Martin,
Anthony Ward, and
Pearce Bucher all had three hits each with Martin and Ward both driving in three runs apiece.

Bucher had a two-run double to right in the first to make it 3-0 in favor of the Hornets.

Dobbs allowed five runs on five hits and one walk in 2.0 innings. GC used five pitchers on the day.
