Baseball Wins Eighth Straight

Complete Season Sweep Over W&L with 14-2 Victory

LEXINGTON, Va. – No. 16/35 Shenandoah University ran its baseball winning streak to eight games with a 14-2 ODAC victory at Washington & Lee Tuesday afternoon.

The 12-run victory gives Shenandoah (9-1, 6-0 ODAC) a sweep of the regular season series with W&L (1-7, 1-7).

IN DEPTH

The Hornets banged out 20 hits versus five Washington & Lee pitchers and scored at least one run in every inning except the fourth, sixth, and seventh.

Leading 4-2, SU began to pull away with a four-run fifth before breaking the game open with two runs in the eighth and another four-spot in the ninth.

The support was more than enough for freshman Reilly Owen, who improved to 2-0 this spring by throwing 6.0 innings in his first collegiate start.

Owen struck out four and allowed the two runs on five hits and one walk.

Tristan Everett, Jacob Faivre and Colby Martin pitched the seventh, eighth, and ninth, respectively, with Martin striking out the side in the ninth.

Martin, the Hornets starting second baseman, also was 2-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored.

Frankie Ritter, batting leadoff, was the offensive catalyst all day. The shortstop was 5-for-6 with two runs scored and three RBI.

Pearce Bucher, the ODAC Player of the Week, and Anthony Ward both had three hits with Keegan Woolford and Haden Madagan joining Martin with two hits each.

All nine Shenandoah starters had at least one hit.
