VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Shenandoah University posted the eighth women's lacrosse shutout of the
Lindsey Lutz era with a 21-0 ODAC victory at Virginia Wesleyan Saturday afternoon.
Â
Shenandoah (2-4, 2-0 ODAC) held Virginia Wesleyan (0-7, 0-2) to just three shots in posting its first shutout since blanking Sweet Briar, 19-0, on Apr. 22, 2017.
IN BRIEF
Freshman
Reilly Cisar gave the Hornets all of the offense they would need by converting a feed from
Natalie Nichols at 21:06, but SU was far from finished.
Â
Cisar's goal, one of three she had on the day, started a run in which Shenandoah would score nine more goals in the next 10:48 of game time.
Â
The 10-goal margin kicked in the running clock, and SU continued to keep up the pressure. The Hornets scored three more goals in the first half to take a 13-0 lead into the break.
Â
Cisar scored the opening goal of the second, this time off of an
Emma Stiffler just 25 seconds in, and Shenandoah coasted home to the shutout victory.
Â
Eight different women scored goals in the game with Stiffler and
Alyson Bittinger notching four each.
Â
Stiffler also had a team-high three assists.
Â
SU had a 44-3 edge in shots, scooped up 27 of the game's 42 groundballs and won 18 of 23 draws.
NOTABLE
- The Hornets other shutouts in Lutz' 13+ seasons at the helm of the program have come versus Hollins (3x), Sweet Briar (2x), Ferrum, and Hope.
