Seahawks Stun Women's Lax

Hornets Fall, 9-8, in Double OT

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Host St. Mary's of Maryland scored the final six goals of the game Saturday to stun No. 25 Shenandoah, 9-8, in non-league women's lacrosse action.

The Seahawks (1-0) got a Lily Davison goal 49 seconds into the second sudden victory session to earn the comeback victory.

IN BRIEF

Shenandoah (0-2), which earned its first-ever national ranking this past week, scored the initial five goals of the game and led 6-1 following a Madison Re to Natalie Nichols goal 14 seconds into the second half.

This started a run in which the two teams traded goals over the next 10 minutes.

Unfortunately for the Hornets, an Emily Lerch goal at 18:44, which put the squad up 8-3, would be the final SU goal of the contest.

SMCM knotted the game at 8-8 with 51 seconds left, sending into the sudden victory OT.

Shenandoah had two shots on goal in the first six-minute extra session but it was all St. Mary's in the second.

The 'Hawks won the draw to start the period, set up their offense and Davison went high to net the game-winner.
