WINCHESTER, Va. – No. 18/35 Shenandoah University completed its week Sunday by sweeping a non-league baseball doubleheader from future ODAC foe Averett University.

Shenandoah (16-4) was a 12-3 winner in the opener before erupting for 22 hits in an 18-3 game two win. The non-league double-dip represented the first time SU had faced the Cougars (5-17) since meeting them in the 2012 USA South Conference Tournament.
GAME ONE
Shenandoah scored five runs in the first and third innings while riding solid mound performances from
Jake Newquist,
Ethan Laird, and
Curtis Kenski in the 12-3 victory.

Eight of the nine hitters in the SU lineup hit safely with
Pearce Bucher and
Kooper Anderson each getting three hits.

Grant Thompson,
Keegan Woolford,
Anthony Ward, and
Haden Madagan all had two hits with Madagan driving in four runs on a two-run double in the first and a two-run single in the third.

Newquist (1-0) earned the win in his first collegiate start. He allowed three runs on five hits and three walks in 5.0 innings of work.

Laird pitched the sixth through eighth, striking out two and not allowing a hit, with Kenski recording the final three outs. He walked one and allowed one hit.
GAME TWO
The offense really heated up in game two as Shenandoah banged out 22 hits in an 18-3 victory.

SU hit four home runs, three in the second inning alone, on its way to its best offensive performance of the spring.

Frankie Ritter and
Anthony Ward both had three-run home runs, to left and right, respectively, with
Colby Martin hitting a solo shot in a seven-run second.

In the third,
Keegan Woolford hit a two-run shot to help key a four-run frame. The home run is the Woolford's fifth of the season and third of the week.

Christopher Rowell (1-0) threw the first 4.0 innings before leaving on a predetermined pitch count. Rowell allowed three runs on five hits and one walk while striking out two.

Matt Barnes,
Blake Loughran,
Aaron Torres,
Kyle Lisa, and
Parker Farrington all pitched one inning to close out the victory. Those five held Averett without a hit while posting a combined five strikeouts.

Woolford and
Pearce Bucher both had four hits with Ritter and
Colby Martin getting three each. Ritter, Martin, and Woolford drove in three runs each.
Ward completed his strong afternoon with four RBI.

Once again, eight of the nine SU starters had at least one hit.
