WINCHESTER, Va. – No. 2 Salisbury University outslugged No. 15 Shenandoah University in a 19-10 non-league baseball victory for the Sea Gulls Sunday afternoon.

In addition to the 29 runs, the two teams combined for 28 hits in the game as Salisbury (14-2) scored two runs in the eighth and seven in the ninth to pull away for the nine-run victory.

After the two teams traded two runs each in the first, Shenandoah (19-6) answered three runs from the Sea Gulls in the top of the second by plating five runs in the bottom of the frame.

Salisbury had four in the third and one in the fourth to lead 10-7, only to see the Hornets score twice in the fourth and once in the sixth to tie the ballgame at 10-10.

The seventh was the only scoreless inning in the contest.

The Sea Gulls finally went on top to stay with two runs on three hits in the eighth. The visitors closed out the high-scoring game by plating seven runs on six hits in the ninth.

Grant Thompson and
Keegan Woolford both had three hits with Woolford driving in four runs on a single in the first, a two-run home run in the second and a groundout in the fourth.

Thompson had a solo shot in the sixth.

Cade Templeton (0-1) took the loss after allowing five runs on six hits and one walk in 3.0 innings of work.

Senior Clayton Dwyer (5-0) earned the win for the Gulls. He struck out three and gave up one hit in 2 2/3 innings of relief work.
