WINCHESTER, Va. – No. 15 Shenandoah University hit four home runs for the second straight day in dispatching Bridgewater, 17-8, in ODAC baseball action Tuesday afternoon at Bridgeforth Field.

Henry Delavergne,
Colby Martin, and
Grant Thompson all went yard for the Hornets (21-6) in finishing off the season sweep over Bridgewater (10-9).

After the Eagles tied the game at 4-4 with three runs in the third and one in the fifth, SU reasserted control with three runs in the fifth.

Martin, who missed hitting for a cycle by only the double, put the Hornets on top to stay with a single to right to bring home Thompson.

Thompson reached on a one-out triple to center.

Pearce Bucher and
Anthony Ward then drove in runs on a fielder's choice and a single to center, respectively.

In the sixth, Delavergne led off the frame with a solo shot to left before Martin greeted reliever William Flanagan with a three-run bomb to left center.

Frankie Ritter RBI single followed by
Grant Thompson's two-run shot to right stretched the Hornets lead out to 14-7 in the seventh.

SU scored three more in the eighth to close the book on the day's scoring.

Shenandoah jumped out to that 4-0 lead with two runs in the first and two in the second off of BC starter James Swart. Woolford got the scoring started in the first by crushing Swart offering over the fence in right center for his ninth home run of season and fourth in the past three games.

Woolford's blast also plated Martin, who reached on a two-out triple to center.

In the second, Shenandoah chased Swart by manufacturing two runs on one hit, two walks and a hustle play from Delavergne.

Delvergne got the rally started by beating the throw to first on a wild pitch third strike and then found himself on third as
Matt Moon and
Frankie Ritter both walked.

Thompson then singled up the middle, bringing home Delavergne and Moon.

Thompson finished the day 4-for-6 and Martin 3-for-4 with both men driving in four runs. The top eight hitters in the SU lineup all had at lead one hit and one RBI.

Reilly Owen (4-0) earned the win with 3.0 innings of relief. He allowed three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out two.

Bridgewater used eight pitchers. Tucker Hrasky (1-2) took the loss after giving up six runs on six hits and one walk in 1 1/3.
UP NEXT
Shenandoah travels to Ferrum College Sunday for a noon doubleheader. This double-dip was originally scheduled for Saturday but shifted 24 hours based on the weather forecast.
