Baseball Splits at Ferrum

Win Game Two, 13-2, After Falling, 14-7, in Opener

FERRUM, Va. – No. 15 Shenandoah University split its ODAC baseball doubleheader at Ferrum College Sunday afternoon.

Shenandoah (22-7, 15-4 ODAC) rebounded from a 14-7 defeat in game one to top the Panthers (8-20, 5-14) by a 13-2 score in the nightcap.

GAME ONE

Ferrum banged out 21 hits versus four Shenandoah pitchers to earn the 14-7, game one victory.

Shenandoah erased a 5-1 deficit with five runs in the top of the fifth only to see the Panthers answer with five in their half of the inning along with four more in the sixth to break the game wide open.

Colby Martin was 3-for-5, Grant Thompson 2-for-3 and Pearce Bucher had a two-run home run to pace the offense.

Matt House (2-1) took the loss after giving up four unearned runs on just one hit and one walk in 1.0 inning of work.

GAME TWO

Shenandoah wasted little time in jumping on Ferrum in game two by posting a seven-spot in the second on its way to the 13-2 victory.

Freshman Jacob Faivre (2-0) tossed the initial six innings and allowed two runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out five. Ethan Laird struck out two in 2.0 innings of work before Parker Farrington retired the final three Panthers in order. He struck out one.

Martin and Kooper Anderson led the 15-hit attack with three hits apiece.

Martin finished 3-for-5 and had his sixth triple of the season, putting him one triple from tying Jake Loew '17 for the single season record. Loew had his seven triples in 2016.

Frankie Ritter, Pearce Bucher and Henry Delavergne all had two hits.
