Lynchburg Tops Men's Lax

Win Battle of ODAC Hornets, 17-7

WINCHESTER, Va. - No. 5 University of Lynchburg earned win No. 300 for head coach Steve Koudelka with a 17-7 ODAC men's lacrosse victory over host Shenandoah Wednesday evening.

Lynchburg (11-2, 6-1 ODAC) scored the initial 10 goals of the game to take an insurmountable lead over SU (4-6, 2-5).

IN BRIEF

Chris Baker broke that opening 10-goal run for the visitors by converting a Devon Weaver feed at the 7:00 mark of the second.

Lynchburg answered with three goals, the last at 1:34, to take a 13-1 lead at the break.

The two teams traded the initial four goals of the third with Drew Kagdis and Tyler Held goals for SU being sandwiched by Lynchburg goals at 14:08 and 7:17.

Another Kagdis unassisted goal, this one at 2:51, closed out the third quarter scoring.

At 7:56 of the fourth quarter, Jay Baker fed Jet Hayes for Shenandoah's fifth goal of the contest. The assist was Jay Baker's second of the game as he set up Held's third quarter tally.

Just 37 seconds later, Jay Baker scored unassisted on a man-up opportunity.

Lynchburg scored the game's next two goals before Hayes fed Brock DiMauro for a man-up goal one second before the final buzzer.

Lynchburg outshot SU 57-29, had a 44-32 advantage in groundballs and won 20-of-27 faceoffs.

Shenandoah goalkeepers Mark Isabelle and Gabe Russell combined for 21 saves. Isabelle had 13 of those stops in the first half and Russell eight in the second.

NOTABLE

  • The game was delayed by approximately 15 minutes midway through the second quarter after the Shenandoah campus had a power surge which caused the stadium lights to go out.
  • Koudelka is 300-132 in 25 seasons at Lynchburg's helm.

UP NEXT

Shenandoah begins its two-game road trip to complete the 2021 regular season with a 1 p.m. ODAC contest Saturday at Hampden-Sydney.
