Baseball Dethrones Royals

Ritter, Woolford Hit Homers in 11-8 Win

WINCHESTER, Va. – No. 18/35 Shenandoah University earned its tenth ODAC baseball victory of the season Wednesday by dispatching Eastern Mennonite, 11-8.

Shenandoah (13-3, 10-2 ODAC) led 11-3 heading into the ninth before EMU made matters interesting with a five-spot in the top of the frame.

IN BRIEF

Now with a three-run lead after the Royals hit two- and- three-run home runs in the inning, SU skipper Kevin Anderson turned to freshman Colby Martin to close out the contest.

Martin earned his first save by getting the final two outs via a groundout to third and a strike out looking.

The Hornets had two home runs among their 10 hits on the day. Shortstop Frankie Ritter led off the SU first with a solo shot to left before Keegan Woolford hit his 32nd career dinger with a two-run shot in the fifth.

Leading 5-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh, Shenandoah seemingly turned the game into a rout with six runs on just one hit in the bottom of the seventh.

Three different EMU pitchers issued four walks and hit three batters while the defense committed one error that allowed three of the runs to be unearned.

Freshman Jacob Faivre earned the win with four innings of work. Working under a pre-determined pitch limit, Faivre (1-0) allowed one run on four hits in the four innings of work.

He also struck out four.

Ritter and Pearce Bucher both had two hits.

UP NEXT

Shenandoah travels to No. 12 Randolph-Macon on Saturday for a noon ODAC doubleheader.
