Hornets Goalies Combine for 26 Saves in Loss

SALEM, Va. – Host Roanoke College held Shenandoah University off the board in the first and fourth quarters Wednesday afternoon in a 23-5 ODAC men's lacrosse victory over the Hornets.

Roanoke (5-2, 3-1 ODAC) scored the initial eight goals of the game to take a lead it would not relinquish versus SU (3-3, 1-3).

IN BRIEF

Freshman Max Myers broke that game-opening scoreless drought with an unassisted tally 4:33 into the second quarter.

After RC answered with a three-goal run, Shenandoah scored back-to-back at 6:44 and 3:59, the latter a Jet Hayes EMO goal off of a Logan Clingerman assist.

Tyler Held, from Jay Baker, had the first goal.

The Maroons closed the half on another three-goal run to lead 14-3 at the break.

Following a Roanoke goal to start the third, Held and Hayes again went back-to-back with Brock DiMauro assisting on Held's goal and Hayes goal at 4:56 coming unassisted.

Unfortunately for the Hornets, this would be the squad's final goal of the game. RC closed SU out by scoring the final eight goals of the contest.

Roanoke outshot SU 76-22, had a 60-24 edge in groundballs and won 28 of 32 faceoffs.

Mark Isabelle had 20 saves in just over 36 minutes and Gabe Russell making six stops in 21:28. Isaac Graves played the final 2:15.

The 26 saves by the goalkeepers is the fifth-best team performance in program history.
