AMHERST, Va. – The Shenandoah University field hockey team completed its regular season Friday night with a 9-0 ODAC victory over Sweet Briar.

Playing on the artificial turf at Amherst High School, Shenandoah (6-3, 6-3 ODAC) scored four goals in both the first and second quarters to take a commanding lead over SBC (1-4, 1-3).

Farren Winter scored what proved to be the game-winner by smashing home a
Kelsey Jones feed from 12 yards out at the 3:11 mark of the first.

Serena Farmer tallied unassisted at 12:09 before
Abby Barefoot scored at 13:00 and 13:17, the first off of a Farmer assist, to make it 4-0 after one.

Fallon Spittel and Farmer scored in the second, with Farmer's goal seven seconds before the halftime horn closing out the scoring.

Over the final 30 minutes, Shenandoah elected to play possession and scored on one of its eight shots.
Elise Velasquez had that goal with 1:50 remaining.

SU outshot the Vixens 28-2 and took all 11 of the game's corners.

Katie Garman made her first start of the season and had to record just one save to post her first career shutout.

"We had a great week of practice and preparation for the game tonight," head coach
Ashley Smeltzer-Kraft said. "We connected our passes really well and supported one another the entire game. It was a great team win leading into playoffs with contributions from everyone on the squad."
UP NEXT
Shenandoah has officially qualified for the upcoming ODAC Tournament as the No. 4 seed. SU will host the fifth-seed (Eastern Mennonite, Randolph-Macon, or Bridgewater) in Tuesday's quarterfinal round. Tournament pairings should be announced by the league Sunday afternoon following the completion of the conference slate.
