SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Shenandoah University opened up the "SU" Volleyball Tournament Friday evening with a 3-1 loss to host Susquehanna University.
With the opening serve delayed by 40 minutes due to the length of the opening match between Stockton (N.J.) and Salisbury universities, the Hornets (2-4) dropped a 10-25, 35-33, 15-25, 16-25 decision to the River Hawks (3-2).

The marathon second set featured 11 set points with Shenandoah having opportunities to win at 26, 27 and 29 before winning it at 35-33.
Trailing 33-32,
Jillian Warter knotted the set at 33-33 with a kill off of a
Kate Poppo assist. Poppo put SU one point from a win by knocking home an
Abby Lichtenfels set before Lichtenfels set up Warter for the set-winning kill.
Brooke Wagner was at the service line for the final two points.
Coach
Kent Clayberg's club hit a match-best .319 (19-4—47) in that second set and was .090 (39-27—133) for the match.
Warter had a team-high 15 kills with Poppo adding 11 to go along with 19 digs.
Lichtenfels had 33 of the team's 37 assists.

The Hornets complete tournament play by taking on Stockton at 1 and Salisbury at 3 on Saturday.
