BUENA VISTA, Va. – Homestanding Southern Virginia snuck out a 5-4 non-league women's tennis victory over Shenandoah University Wednesday afternoon.

The Knights (1-0) took a 2-1 lead following the doubles and then held on by winning the bottom three singles matches versus SU (0-1).

Natalia García Molina and
Jahveesha Combs were double winners for the Hornets. The duo teamed up for an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles before both won in singles.

Combs won in straight sets at No. 2, winning 6-0, 6-3, while García Molina rebounded from a 4-6 loss in the opening set to win 6-4 in the second and then 10-5 in pro-set format third.

Shenandoah's remaining win, by
Ariella Stepleman at No. 3 singles, also was in three sets. Stepleman won 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (10-6) over Campbell Bueler.

The bottom three singles matches all went in straight sets. The closest match of the day was at No. 2 doubles, where SVU won 8-7 (8-3).
