DANVILLE, Va. – The Shenandoah University volleyball team dropped a pair of matches Friday to open the Cougar Classic hosted by Averett University.

Shenandoah (1-2) lost 3-0 to both Oglethorpe (Ga.) and host Averett.

MATCH ONE RECAP
The Stormy Petrels (1-1) won at 20, 17, and 14 to open up tournament play.

Sophomore
Jillian Warter paced SU with 13 kills while
Brooke Gast added 10.

Abby Lichtenfels had 23 assists while
Brooke Wagner paced the defense with 11 digs.

MATCH TWO RECAP
In the nightcap, Averett (3-0), set to join the ODAC next year, outlasted Shenandoah 25-15, 25-19, and 29-27.

Warter was again the story offensively with 18 kills. Her 14 digs gave her a double-double as well.

Lichtenfels had 30 of the squad's 31 assists with Wagner backing up Warter defensively with 13 digs. Gast had nine.

The squad completes tournament play on Saturday with matches versus William Peace and N.C. Wesleyan.
