WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University field hockey team wrapped up its opening week of the season Saturday with a 9-0 non-league blowout victory over Gwynedd Mercy.

Shenandoah (1-1) got all of the offense it would need as first-year
Mairead Mckibbin tallied an unassisted goal just 2:17 in versus the Griffins (0-1).

After playing the remainder of the first quarter scoreless, The Hornets kept up the pressure in the second and third with a combined eight goals.

Kelsey Jones and
Cassidy Morrison each scored a pair of goals during this run with
Abbey Ritter,
Farren Winter,
Abby Barefoot, and
Hailey Colt notching the other four goals.

Jones (on Colt's goal) and Mckibbin (on Ritter's goal) added assists.

Shenandoah outshot GMC 29-1, including 18-0 on goal. SU goalkeepers
Taylor Swann and
Katie Garman did not have to make a save to post the combined shutout.

SU also had all 18 of the game's penalty corners.
