Women's Hoops Clips Eagles

Hornets Win, 64-56

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's basketball team earned its third ODAC win of the season Wednesday night with a 64-56 victory over visiting Bridgewater.
 
Shenandoah (8-4, 3-4 ODAC) broke a 29-29 halftime tie with a 13-point third quarter over the Eagles (5-6, 3-2).

A pair of Olivia Weinel free throws with 17 seconds remaining in the third quarter gave the Hornets the lead for good. Weinel, who led SU in scoring with 16 points, added a fastbreak jumper 14 seconds later to close out the third quarter scoring.
 
Bridgewater stayed within striking distance until a 9-1 Shenandoah run, capped by consecutive Terese Greene buckets, put the hosts on top by 11, 55-44. Coach Melissa Smeltzer-Kraft's club pushed the advantage out to 13 points before coasting home to the eight-point victory.
 
Shenandoah shot a sizzling 62 percent (8-of-13) from the field in the final stanza to help pull away from the Eagles.
 
Madisen Kimble and Shawnise Campbell backed up Weinel in the scoring column with 12 points each.
 
The Hornets shot 45 percent (26-of-58), scored 18 points off of 21 BC turnovers and had a 37-28 advantage on the glass.
