DANVILLE, Va. – Host Averett University swept Shenandoah University Friday night in ODAC volleyball action.
Averett (13-7, 8-2 ODAC) won at 22 and 21, respectively, in the opening two sets before securing the victory over Shenandoah (7-10, 3-5) with a 27-25 victory in the third.
IN BRIEF
The Hornets had a 24-23 lead in the third but saw AU earn the serve back with an Emma Nash kill and then come one point from victory thanks to a Sarah Marlowe kill.
Jillian Warter, who led SU with nine kills, finished off a
Brooke Wagner assist to knot the contest at 25-25, but this would prove to be the Hornets last stand.
Averett clinched the victory with a kill followed by a bad SU set.
There were eight lead changes and 20 ties in the match.
Shenandoah hit .133 (30-16—105) to .243 for the Cougars (50-22—115).
BY THE NUMBERS
In addition to Warter's nine kills,
Aaliyah Chunn and
Cheyenne Price had five each.
Chunn led a solid effort at the net with seven blocks.
Wagner had 19 assists while
Emma Thompson posted 13 digs.
