GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Shenandoah University volleyball team picked up an important ODACA victory Saturday morning with a 3-2 win at Guilford.
Shenandoah (8-10, 4-5 ODAC) won the decisive fifth set, 16-14, after splitting the first four sets versus Guilford (4-16, 2-8).
IN BRIEF
The Quakers were 25-21 winners in the opener before SU answered back with 25-23 and 25-20 wins in the second and third, respectively. Guilford then forced the fifth by winning 25-17 in the fourth.
The two teams traded the back-and-forth three times and were tied on six other occasions in the fifth before Shenandoah sealed the win by scoring the final three points of the match.
Down to its final point, Shenandoah knotted the contest at 14-14 on a
Brooke Gast kill. With
Cheyenne Price at the service line, the Hornets combined a GC attack error followed by an
Aaliyah Chunn kill to close out the contest.
BY THE NUMBERS
Jillian Warter had 14 kills for the victors with
Kate Poppo adding 12, Chunn and
Regan Minney 10 each and Gast nine.
Brooke Wagner had 30 assists and Becka Nguyen 24.
Poppo had a match-high 29 digs with
Emma Thompson chipping in 21 and
Natalie Reader 11.
