Volleyball Drops a Pair

Hornets Swept at Scranton

SCRANTON, Pa. – The Shenandoah University volleyball team dropped a pair of matches Saturday in its penultimate tri-match of the season.
 
Shenandoah (8-13) was swept, 3-0, by both Manhattanville and Scranton in non-league play contested at the University of Scranton.
 
MANHATTANVILLE RECAP
Shenandoah fell to Manhattanville, 25-16, 25-14, and 26-24, in the first-ever volleyball meeting between the Hornets and Valiants (18-6).
 
The Hornets held a 22-13 lead the in the third only to see MC get back into it with an 8-0 run that made the score 22-21.
 
Shenandoah ended that run with a Cheyenne Price kill and then got another Price kill to make it 24-22, but saw the Valiants score the final four points of the set to seal the victory
 
Jillian Warter led SU with eight kills while Price added seven.
 
Natalie Reader had a team-high 11 digs.
 
SCRANTON RECAP
The host Royals (18-9) completed the day's play by sweeping SU 25-8, 26-24, and 25-21.
 
Sets two and three were very competitive with eight of the matches' 10 ties and three of the four lead changes coming in these two sets.
 
Shenandoah led as late as 19-18 in the third before Scranton reeled off three straight points and four of the next five to take a lead it would not relinquish.
 
Warter and Regan Minney both had nine kills.
 
Brooke Wagner had 15 assists and Becka Nguyen 11 to run the offense while Kate Poppo had 16 digs to pace the Hornets defensively.
 
UP NEXT
Shenandoah returns home Wednesday night for a 7 p.m. ODAC match versus Eastern Mennonite.
