LYNCHBURG, Va. – The No. 17 Shenandoah University field hockey team defeated No. 19 Lynchburg in a 2-1 ODAC thriller Saturday afternoon at Shellenberger Field.
SU (12-0, 3-0 ODAC) scored two fourth quarter goals in the top-20 meeting with its fellow set of ODAC Hornets (9-3, 1-1).

Taylor Swann was impressive from start-to-finish in the low scoring game, stopping a season-high 12 shots.
The game remained scoreless until Kessa Romero squeaked a penalty corner goal past Swann and Shenandoah, giving Lynchburg the 1-0 lead in the third.
Down in the fourth, Shenandoah tied the game at one thanks to the leading scorer the ODAC, Mairead McKibbin. Mckibbin's shot took a friendly redirect past the southern Hornets 2:14 into the fourth.

Despite several attempts from Lynchburg's offense, Shenandoah's defense and goalkeeping stayed strong, holding Lynchburg to just three shots on goal in the final frame.
Lynchburg outshot Shenandoah 18-13, while SU had a corner advantage of 10-8.
This is Shenandoah's first win at Lynchburg since a 2-1 overtime win during the 2016 ODAC semi-finals and just the third overall in 25 lifetime meetings. Shenandoah would go on to win the ODAC Championship following that '16 victory.
