Women's Hoops Blows Out Hollins

Hornets Win, 78-33

ROANOKE, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's basketball team registered its third straight blowout victory with a 78-33 ODAC win at Hollins University Wednesday evening in the conference opener for both schools.
 
Defending league champion Shenandoah (3-0, 1-0 ODAC) once again led wire-to-wire and used a strong start to end the contest early versus its opponent.
 
IN BRIEF
Wednesday night, Madisen Kimble kickstarted a 14-2 run to start the contest for the Hornets with her layup 63 seconds in. SU scored the game's initial seven points and 14 of the first 16 before Hollins (1-2, 0-1) hit a 3-pointer with 1:49 to play in the first.
 
Shenandoah led 18-9 after one to hold its opponents to single digit scoring in the opening stanza for the third straight game.
 
Another double-up in the second quarter, this one 24-12, gave the Hornets a 42-21 lead by halftime.
 
Coach Melissa Smeltzer-Kraft's club kept their collective feet on the gas pedal in the third, outscoring Hollins 19-6 to extend its advantage out to 61-27. In the fourth, the Hornets scored 17 of the 23 points of the stanza to coast home to the 45-point victory.
 
Kimble led the victors with 15 points with Shawnise Campbell adding 13 points, Maggie Rooklin 11 and Emily Williams 10. Williams had a double-double with 11 rebounds.
 
Terese Greene, who scored seven points, backed up Williams with 10 boards.
 
Shenandoah shot an even 40 percent (32 of 80) and had 57 rebounds to Hollins shooting 18 percent (10 of 55) and 35 rebounds.

In three games this season, SU has outscored its opponents 217-94 and has a +41.0 scoring margin.
