FREDERICK, Md. - The Shenandoah University women's basketball team completed its non-conference slate Monday night with a 74-43 win at Hood College.
The Blazers (6-15) scored the first basket, a free throw, at 9:29 for what would prove to be the hosts' only lead of the game. The Hornets (15-4) scored the game's next six points and never looked back in recording their eighth straight victory.
THE RUNDOWN
In front of a large Shenandoah crowd at Hood College's BB&T Arena, the visitors owned a seven point lead 14-7 at the end of the first quarter.
The SU defense held the Blazers scoreless for nearly five minutes in the second and used an 11-point run to extend its lead to 25-9.
Holding Hood to just nine shot attempts in the second and a 22.2 shooting percentage (2-for-9) from the field, SU led 32-13 at the break.
Twelve women saw action during the first half and ten of those recorded at least one point during the 18-4 run to close out the stanza.
Shenandoah extended the lead to 25 points, 51-26, after a slow start coming out of the locker room. SU began the second half shooting just 2-of-7 before going on to finish the quarter 7-of-16 for 43.8 percent.
The Hornets outscored HC 23-17 in the final quarter.
All 17 women who were dressed saw playing time on Monday night with 15 of them recording points. The 74-points scored is the fifth-high highest total on the season and the 31-point win is the fourth-best margin of victory.
