WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University cross country teams opened up their respective 2022 seasons Thursday afternoon with a pair of top three finishes at its own Twilight Meet.

The SU women, with 30 points, finished second on a tiebreaker to Bridgewater in the 3K race. The Hornet men had 84 points in their 5K race to finish third. Washington & Lee won that men's race with 18 points.

WOMEN'S RECAP
Shenandoah went 3-4-5-6-12 to total its 30 points with
Erin Atkinson third,
Madeline Lotts fourth,
Cora Helman fifth, and
Sarah Christy sixth.
Â
Atkinson led this grouping with an 11:35.4.
Â
Mackenzie Young won it for Bridgewater by posting an 11:02.7. She bested teammate Emily Smeds by 1.2 seconds.

Third place was also broken by a tiebreaker with Marymount taking the spot over Christendom. Both teams had 86 points.

MEN'S RECAP
Joshua Canavan, with a 17:18.59, paced Shenandoah. He was 14
th overall.Â
Elias McGhie was 18
th, Noah Hurd 20
th,
Ethan Harrower 22
nd, and
Tyler Smith 24
th. That group all finished within a minute of each other as McGhie posted a 17:26.80 and Smith an 18:12.29.

Washington & Lee went 1-2-4-5-6 to miss a perfect score by just three points. Charles Scharf was the winner with a 15:22.70.

Bridgewater was second with 45 points and Marymount fourth with 118.
