Hockey Wins Again

Top College of Wooster, 6-1

WOOSTER, Ohio - Shenandoah University completed a successful weekend field hockey trip to Ohio Sunday with a 6-1 non-league victory over the College of Wooster.

Shenandoah (4-0) made it two victories in 24 hours by taking out Wooster (1-2) in the first-ever field hockey meeting between the two schools.

IN BRIEF
The Hornets opened the weekend trip Saturday with a 7-0 win at Kenyon.

After a scoreless first period Sunday, in which SU outshot the Fighting Scots 10-0, Shenandoah got on the board 83 seconds into the second on a Mairead Mckibbin unassisted tally.

Wooster answered back three minutes later, but the 1-1 tie would prove to be short-lived.

Coach Ashley Smeltzer-Kraft's club scored three goals in a span of 3:03 midway through the second to take total control.

Claudia Lenahan put SU on top to stay with her tally at 24:52 before Kelsey Jones scored at 25:23 and Mckibbin at 27:57. Jones also assisted on Lenahan's goal.

In third Mckibbin completed her hat trick with a goal at 33:54 with Elizabeth Ranberger closing the book on the day's scoring by knocking home a Farren Winter feed at 40:49. Winter also assisted on Mckibbin's second goal of the game.

Shenandoah outshot Wooster 38-1 and took all 20 of the game's penalty corners.

UP NEXT
The Hornets return home to Aikens Stadium to take on Mary Washington Wednesday at 7 p.m.
