Hockey Extinguishes Phoenix

Hornets Down Wilson, 6-0

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University field hockey team ran its season-opening winning streak to six Monday evening with a 6-0 non-league victory over Wilson College.

Shenandoah (6-0) dominated from start to finish versus the Phoenix (2-2).

IN BRIEF
SU outshot its visitors, 30-2, including 12-1 on goal and only allowed one penalty corner all evening long.

Offensively, Mairead Mckibbin provided all of the goal-scoring the squad would need with an unassisted tally 7:28 into the contest.

The Hornets were not done, however, scoring one goal each in the second and third periods before finding the back of the net three times in the final stanza.

Each of those goals was scored by a different player as Mckibbin, Lauren Tyre, Kelsey Jones, Farren Winter, and Elizabeth Ranberger all scored once with Tyre, Jones, Ranberger, and Mckibbin adding assists. Ranberger's goal, with 39 seconds remaining, closed out the evening's scoring.

Taylor Swann made one save in earning the shutout victory.

The Hornets had 15 corners on the night.
