WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University men's and women's cross country teams returned to action Saturday with a pair of top five finishes at the annual Hornet Harrier Invitational.

Competing over 6000-meters for the women's race and 8000-meters for the men's at Kernstown Battlefield, the Shenandoah women finished second and the men fifth in their respective races.

WOMEN'S RECAP
The SU women had 44 points in their race to finish 19 back of race winner Ursinus. Coach
Andy Marrocco's squad was also 64 points clear of third place Marymount.
Â
Marymount, Hollins, Roanoke, and Mary Baldwin rounded out the seven-team field.

Shenandoah scored 2-4-11-12-15 for its 44 points with
Erin Atkinson earning the runner-up spot in the race with a 23:40.6. Rachel Conhoff, from Ursinus, was the winner at 23:16.1.

Sarah Christy 13
th, and
Allie Clarkson 16
th to round out the SU scoring runners.

Ursinus scored 1-3-6-7-8 to win the race.

In the five-team women's 5000-meter race, Washington & Lee was the winner with 20 points.

MEN'S RECAP
The 10-team men's 8000-meter event went to a tiebreaker with Ursinus winning it with a 33
rd place finish from their sixth runner to a 49
th place showing by the No. 6 runner from Washington & Lee. Both schools had 52 points from their top five.

Shenandoah's 107 points was 19 back of Roanoke and 48 clear of Hagerstown CC.

Jeremy Allinger had the Hornets top showing with a 28:17.9 that was good for 14
th overall.

Clay Kaufman, from Eastern Mennonite, won the men's race with a 27:06.9. He bested teammate Bellamy Immanuel by seven seconds.

McDaniel won the men's 6000-meter event with 27 points.
