CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The field hockey team continued its winning ways Saturday with a 5-4 non-league victory at Washington (Md.) College.
After the two teams scored one goal each in the first three periods, Shenandoah (8-0) scored the final two goals of the game to outlast the Shorewomen (3-4).
IN BRIEF
Trailing 4-3 as WC scored two minutes into the fourth, the Hornets knotted the contest at 4-4 on a
Kelsey Jones goal with 5:17 remaining. Jones, a 2021 NFHCA All-America, scored her sixth goal of the season by knocking home a rebound of her own shot.
Just less than two minutes later,
Mackenzie Watkins set up
Cassidy Morrison with what proved to be the game-winner. Watkins corralled a rebound and set Morrison up for her fifth goal of the year.
Jones and Morrison both had two goals apiece with
Claudia Lenahan adding the remaining tally.
Madison Short,
Mairead Mckibbin, and
Farren Winter had assists in addition to Watkins' helper on the final goal of the contest.
The lead was Shenandoah's first of the game as the Shorewomen had led 1-0, 2-1, 3-2, and 4-3 only to see SU even the score each time.
Neither team was able to get off a shot after Morrison's game-winner.
SU outshot its hosts, 25-12, and had a 13-7 edge in penalty corners.
Taylor Swann had seven saves in the win.
