SALISBURY, Md. – The Shenandoah University men's and women's cross country teams completed their opening weekend of the 2022 season by competing in the 26
th annual Salisbury University Fall Classic.

The SU men, competing in an 8000-meter event, were sixth of seven teams while the Hornet women finished seventh of nine teams in their 6000-meter race.

WOMEN'S RECAP
Shenandoah finished seventh of nine teams, and fifth among Division III schools, in the 6000-meter race.
Â
The Naval Academy won it with 22 points with Shenandoah's 195 points 67 points back of sixth place Messiah and 55 in front of DII District of Columbia.

Graduate student
Erin Atkinson paced SU with a 23:53.2 that was good for 24
th place in the 112-woman race.

Madeline Lotts,
Cora Helman,
Allie Clarkson, and
Sarah Christy backed up Atkinson. The finished within 65 seconds of one another.

MEN'S RECAP
Navy made it a clean sweep of the day, winning the men's event with 46 points to 53 points from second place Rowan.
Â
Shenandoah had 190 points to outdistance Gallaudet by 35 points. The Hornets were 89 back of DII Kutztown.

Joshua Canavan led the men with a 36
th place finish. He had a 29:15.5. SU ran as a pack with
Ethan Harrower, Noah Hurd,
Elias McGhie, and
Tyler Smith finishing all within 37 seconds of Canavan's time.

Shenandoah is off until hosting the Hornet Harrier on Sep. 24 at Kernstown Battlefield.
