LATROBE, Pa. – Shenandoah University earned a split of its two volleyball matches Saturday at the St. Vincent Tournament.
Shenandoah (1-2) was a 3-2 winner over Westminster (Pa.) in the opening match before falling, 3-1, to the host Bearcats in the nightcap.
WESTMINSTER RECAP
Shenandoah outlasted Westminster (0-2) in the opening match by winning 15-8 in the decisive fifth set. The Hornets had won at 20 and 19 in the opening two sets before the Titans answered by with 26-24 and 25-18 victories in the third and fourth, respectively.
In the fifth, senior
Kate Poppo registered the first point with a kill and then stepped to the service line and scored eight more points to give the Hornets a commanding 9-0 lead. Two of her points during this run came via ace.
Jillian Warter led the victors with 20 kills while Poppo added 10 along with nine digs.
Natalie Reader had a team-high 14 digs and Becka Nguyen had 11 along with her 38 assists.
Cheyenne Price had a solid day at the net with two solo and six blocks assisted.
ST. VINCENT RECAP
SU was a 25-17 winner in the opening set versus St. Vincent, but the Bobcats stormed back to take the match with 26-24, 25-23, 25-20 wins in sets two through four.
Warter was again the story offensively with 15 kills. She and Reader shared the team high in digs with 20 each.
Nguyen had another double-double with 27 assists and 15 digs.
NOTABLE
Reader was named to the all-tournament team for her efforts.

Shenandoah travels to PSU-Harrisburg next weekend for a tri-match versus York (Pa.) and the host Lions.
