WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah men's tennis team kicked off their fall duel matches with a 9-0 sweep over Southern Virginia, Tuesday afternoon. The Hornets (1-0) dominated the Knights from the start, by taking all three doubles matches, before taking all six singles matches to secure the victory.
DOUBLES
Jovan Cirkovic and
Artem Babaiev defeated the doubles team of Abram Robbins and Jeffery Purcell 8-0 in first doubles.
Keith Orr and
Dominick Suwak in second doubles, won 8-2 over the Knights Traejan Kingston and Samuel Larson.
Neil Love and
Anton McCloskey defeated Aidan Hall and Jacob Feldman 8-2 in third doubles to complete the sweep.
SINGLES
In the battle of the number ones, Cirkovic and Robbins battled to a super set tie breaker. Cirkovic would drop the first set, 6-7 (9-11), then come back to win the second set 6
-0, before going on to win in the super set 10-8.
In second singles,
Artem Babaiev won in straight sets over Jeffery Purcell 6-2, 6-3.
Dominick Suwak secured the overall team win for the Hornets from third singles with his 6-0, 6-1 victory.
Keith Orr took care of his opponent 6-1, 6-0 in straight sets.
Anton McCloskey also won in straight sets 6-1,6-2 over Jacob Feldman.
Neil Love took care of Aidan Hall 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) to wrap up and take the match 9-0.
