Hornets Sting Royals with Five Different Goal Scorers

HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Shenandoah women's soccer team picked up a conference win Wednesday night on the road at Eastern Mennonite.  Shenandoah (7-2-4, 2-1-3) get five goals from five different Hornets to beat the Royals (1-8-3, 1-3-1) 5-0.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

The Hornets dominated from the start firing 48 shots in the contest with 20 of those shots coming on frame.
Shenandoah had the edge in penalty corners with 14 opportunities to only two Royal corners.
Kasie Kilmer got the start in goal for the Hornets, but did not face any shots.  Kira Ketlehut would play the second half, and she also did not face any shots.
Two Hornets scored their first goal of the season, Lauren Duffy and Madison Hieber.  While the other three Hornets who scored, Chandler Gallant, Karlie Hepner, and Audrey Atwell all scored their second of the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Shenandoah dominated from the start and looked to jump out early over Eastern Mennonite.  The Hornets would fire eight shots within the first 12 minutes of play but were not able to find the back of the net.  Finally, in the 20th minute, Lauren Duffy scored her first of the season on an assist from Peyton Lubinsky to put the Hornets up 1-0.  Just over five minutes later, the Hornets would add the second goal of the evening, when Chandler Gallant found the back of the net from a ball from Emily Dendis.  Shenandoah would add eight more shots in the rest of the half, but did not score while only giving up one shot in the period to the Royals that sailed wide left of the goal.

In the 52nd minute, Madison Hieber scored her first of the year on an assist from Kayla Jenkins.  Keeping the pressure on the Royal backline and goalie, the Hornets would fire eight more shots before they would score their fourth goal of the game.  Karlie Hepner tickled the twine, after getting a ball from Alexis Andrews for her second goal of the season.  Just over a minute later, Audrey Atwell would fire a shot, that the goalie saved, but the ball would find the foot of Atwell right after, and she would not miss this time for her second goal of the season and secure the 5-0 win.
