Hornets Filet Marlins Behind Ranberger's Hat Trick

WINCHESTER, Va. – The No. 16 Shenandoah University field hockey was back in action on Aikens field for a conference matchup with Virginia Wesleyan.  The Hornets (12-2, 5-1) defeated the Marlins (6-9, 2-4) 7-0 behind Elizabeth Ranberger's hat trick and two goals from Mairead McKibbin

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

The Hornets outshot the Marlins 32-0 with an impressive 24 shots on frame.
Taylor Swann started in net for the Hornets and faced no shots.  Taylor Bullis started in goal in the second half and faced no shots.
Elizabeth Ranberger scored a hat trick for the second-straight game, for her eighth goal of the season.
Mairead McKibbin scored two goals for her team-leading 11th goal.
Farren Winter scored her fifth season goal and assisted on Cassidy Morrison's third goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hornets wasted little time jumping out in front of the Marlins when Elizabeth Ranberger scored her first of three goals in the contest off of a pass from Mairead McKibbin.  McKibbin would get into the scoring action just over five minutes later on her 10th of the season to put the Hornets up 2-0 in the first.  Farren Winter would find the back of the cage 40 seconds later before McKibbin would score her second of the game off of a penalty corner.  Camryn Deleva took the initial shot, but McKibbin was there to finish the goal and close out the first period 4-0.

The only goal in the second period came off the stick of Ranberger.  Although the Hornets could not capitalize on any other scoring opportunities, they would manage to get six other shots off in the period.  Shenandoah took a 5-0 lead into the break.

Taylor Bullis would take over in the cage to start the second half but did not face any shots.  In the 4th quarter, Ranberger would complete the hat trick just over a minute into the stanza for her eighth goal of the season.  Cassidy Morrison would complete the touchdown for the Hornets, as Shenandoah would comfortably win 7-0 en route to their fifth straight win.
