HARRISBURG, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's volleyball was back on the court Wednesday, as they dropped a thrilling five-set match to Eastern Mennonite 3-2 (25-17, 23-25, 23-25, 25-17, 7-15.) With the loss, the Hornets fall to 6-14, 2-8 ODAC on the season while the Royals improve to 8-13, 3-7 ODAC.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Regan Minney led all players with 17 kills for the match.
Jillian Warter chipped in 12 kills while
Cheyenne Price had nine kills of her own.
Aaliyah Chunn led all players with eight blocks in the match, while the duo of
Cheyenne Price and
Emma Thompson each had three blocks.
Kylie Danella led all players by dishing out 32 assists with
Natalie Reader dishing out 11 assists.
Natalie Reader led all players with 24 digs, with
Kylie Danella contributing 17 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Using a kill from
Regan Minney and a service ace from
Kylie Danella, the Hornets jumped out to a 4-0 lead. Quickly the Royals would tie the game at 4 as both squads would trade points back and forth until Shenandoah would go on a four-point run after an ace from Reader. With the Hornets up 21-17, the Hornets would close out the final four points to take the first set highlighted by a
Cheyenne Price kill.
The Hornets would drop the second and third sets by a score of 23-25 but would go on to win the crucial fourth set 25-17. The Hornets found themselves down quickly 6-1 in the fourth but fought back after kills from
Jillian Warter and
Ashlyn Wade with an ace mixed in from
Aaliyah Chunn. The Hornets would take advantage of some Royal attack errors to regain the lead in the set. Shenandoah would hold off the Royals comeback with kills from
Jillian Warter and
Regan Minney before Minney would get the final three kills in the set.
In the fifth, Shenandoah would put up a valiant effort, but the Royal attack was too strong and ultimately the Hornets would fall in the fifth 15-7.
UP NEXT
The Hornets will return home Friday evening for a conference matchup with Randolph-Macon. That game is slated to start at 7 p.m.
