Volleyball Sweeps on Senior Day

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University volleyball team celebrated its senior day with two wins in a tri-match versus John Jay College and Penn State Harrisburg on Saturday afternoon.

The Hornets (8-15) defeated the Bloodhounds (16-6) 3-1 in the day's opening match before taking out the Nittany Lions (9-13) in five sets in the closer.

JOHN JAY RECAP
Shenandoah won the match 3-1 while taking sets one, two and four. The teams traded leads a total of 18 times and tied each other 37 times across the four sets.

Shenandoah ended the first set on a 9-3 run thanks to seven errors by the Bloodhounds. Seniors Aaliyah Chunn and Jillian Warter each had multiple kills in the frame.

Down 15-14, Cheyenne Price and Regan Minney each picked up kills to help flip the script and push the Hornets to the second set victory.

It'd be Minney again helping Shenandoah gain a victory in a set as in the fourth she scored 20 percent of the team's points.

Chunn led all players with eight blocks in the match and senior Natalie Reader led the court with 19 digs. The Hornets committed 13 fewer errors than their opposition.

PENN STATE HARRISBURG RECAP
The Hornets took the first set 25-17 in large part to a 7-0 run ending the set. Price served back-to-back aces to bring them within two points of the victory and Brooke Gast capped it off with two consecutive kills.

Shenandoah hopped out to a 2-0 lead in the match after a 29-27 win in the second set. SU had set point four times as Penn State Harrisburg was able to tie it up each time. That'd continue until Warter ended the frame with a kill like she's done so many times before.

The Nittany Lions won sets three and four as they clawed back to force the fifth set.

In the fifth set Shenandoah scored the first three points and never relinquished the lead. Abby Lichtenfels provided four assists in the set.

Kylie Danella had 21 assists in the match as Warter and Chunn each added 10 kills.

Shenandoah heads to the Washington & Lee next Saturday for a tri-match.
