Volleyball Falls to Virginia Wesleyan

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University volleyball team fell 3-1 (12-25, 25-21, 8-25, 12-25) in an ODAC home match versus Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday night.

The Marlins (17-2, 7-0 ODAC) held the Hornets (6-10, 2-5) to a combined 20 points in the final two sets after SU tied the match with a second-set victory.

IN BRIEF
Shenandoah scored the first point of the match as the teams would go on to tie the first set six times early on. Shenandoah kept the set close until Virginia Wesleyan went on a 10-point run, pushing their lead to 12 points. The Hornets scored a handful of points after the run, but the deficit was too much as the Marlins took the set.

SU bounced back in the second set, flying out to a 9-2 advantage. Natalie Reader and Cara Butler teamed up for three aces during the 9-2 run for Shenandoah.

The Marlins would swim their way back into the lead after falling behind but the Hornets stung right back to regain the momentum. Up 24-21, Shenandoah scored the final point on an Aaliyah Chunn attack kill with Abby Litchenfels assisting on the point.

The Marlins scored the first points in the final two sets and never gave up the lead again, winning the last pair of sets and taking the match.

Jillian Warter and Reagan Minney combined for 19 kills for the Hornets. Brooke Gast and Chunn each had block assists for the home team.
