HOW IT HAPPENED
In the first set, Messiah jumped out a 2-0 lead, but the Hornets would come roaring back with six straight points of their own. In a back-and-forth set, Messiah would use a five-point run of their own to jump back out in front 9-7. Every time one team would go on a run, the other was there to answer with a run of their own. With the Hornets down 17-16, took advantage of four Messiah attack errors, with a
Natalie Reader ace mixed in to regain a 20-17 lead. With the Hornets leading 23-22, Messiah would use two kills and a Hornet error to close out the first set 25-23.
The second set started off in back-and-forth fashion with both teams looking to gain a significant lead. Kills by
Jillian Warter and an ace from
Regan Minney, had the Hornets down 8-9. But then Messiah went on a six-point run, and took a 15-8 lead. After trading points and consecutive kills from
Emma Thompson Messiah would secure the final seven points and take the second set 25-13.
Trying to get back into the match, the Hornets found themselves with a large hole to climb out of.
Aaliyah Chunn picked up two of her kills to make the score 5-2 in favor of the Falcons, but the Falcons' attack was too strong and they continued to pull away. Shenandoah made a late push with two kills from Price and two kills from Warter, but the effort would fall short, and Messiah would close out the third set 25-16 to take the match.
